Abstract

Outcome and complications of laparoscopic appendectomy in Almak Nimir University Hospital Shendi University single centre experience, Sudan

Background: Appendicitis is the most common cause of abdominal pain and a prevalent reason for emergency surgery. Laparoscopic appendectomy is the method of choice, owing to its many advantages, less invasiveness, faster recovery and adequate exploration of the entire abdominal cavity than to observation in unequivocal cases. Laparoscopic surgery can serve as a diagnostic tool for patients with suspected acute appendicitis (AA), specially for female because of its low associated morbidity and mortality and it affords a direct diagnosis of the problem, allowing determination of the appropriate treatment. It is concluded that laparoscopic appendectomy should be offered as the method of choice in any patient population with suspicion of acute appendicitis.
